Mirroring paths

The tools described in this section are only available if you are editing vectors.

The Mirror tool mirrors and rotates the selected part of a path. First select the segments you wish to mirror and rotate; see Selecting knots, segments and paths. Then click and drag with this tool. The selected segments are mirrored and rotated about an origin that is marked with a cross.

If the origin is in the wrong position, you can either drag it with the Mirror tool, or you can Alt-click where it should be.

Creating symmetrical paths

When you're creating a symmetrical path, you can save time by drawing one half of the path, copying and pasting it, and then using the Mirror tool to reflect the copy. You can join the two halves together to create the symmetrical shape.

  1. Draw the first half of the path.
  1. Select all of the path (see Selecting knots, segments and paths).
  1. Choose Edit > Copy and then Edit > Paste to make a copy of the path.
  1. Register the copy to the original by dragging one of the knots on the copy until it snaps into place over the original.
  1. Display the toolkit and choose the Mirror tool.
  1. Move the origin to where the center of the finished shape will be.
  1. Click the pen on the mirror line; the new half should snap into place.
  1. Join the end-knots of the two halves to make a single path (see Joining and breaking paths).
